The Journal of Clinical Nursing recently published a special issue designed to focus on the main challenges facing nursing workforces worldwide. These challenges are commonly identified in the following manner: appropriate staffing levels, developing the appropriate skill set, and enhancing/ensuring quality care.
The journal outlines issues related to the nursing workforce in every major continent of the globe. They range from dealing with the nursing shortage worldwide to the proper allocation of nursing staff time in Australia, to the job search behaviors of nurses in Japan, to the challenges of a workforce development research program in Canada.
The authors in this special issue relay the message that dealing with the challenges of the nursing workforce is a common issue worldwide and that each country’s approach offers something to be learned from by all.
