The American Heart Association (AHA), in conjunction with Wiley-Blackwell, published a series of medical references called the AHA Clinical Series. These books are intended to assist cardiologists and other health care workers in improving patient care. The series editor, Elliott Antman, MD, FAHA, Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School and Director of the Coronary Care Unit at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Boston, has pulled together experts in the field to compile hardcover volumes on the most current and significant topics on cardiovascular medicine.
A few examples of the titles from the series are Biomarkers in Heart Disease (2008), which gives clinicians, cardiologists, internists, and other health care providers a clear and concise explanation of the role of biomarkers in modern cardiovascular medicine. Novel Techniques for Imaging the Heart: Cardiac MR and CT (2008) identifies changes in cardiovascular imaging, informing clinicians of the best technologies available.
Future publications from the series will include Adult Congenital Heart Disease (May 2009), which looks at frequent congenital cardiac anomalies and issues with treatment and diagnosis. Cardiogenic Shock (June 2009), which consists of a compilation of articles that look at prevention of cardiogenic shock. Finally, Metabolic Risk for Cardiovascular Disease (October 2009) identifies risk factors of cardiovascular disease, such as diabetes, obesity, and metabolic diseases.
