The S.E.L.F. Program: Stimulate Encourage Learn Foster

By Jayne Schaefer

S.E.L.F. is a person-centered program providing engagement and activity for persons with memory loss. It is intended to provide practical and experiential training for professionals and frontline staff who work directly with persons with Alzheimer's disease or dementia. S.E.L.F. is designed as a series of activities and exercises that provide direct caregivers with the values, assessment skills, and planning tools to create the ideal person-centered program. It consists of 23 modules and five DVD/videos. Modules include trainer tips, instructional materials, PowerPoint training slides, participant handouts, and detailed lists of equipment and materials to be used during each presentation.

This program supports staff working with people with memory loss living in assisted living, skilled nursing communities or attending adult day care. To learn more, visit www.matherlifeways.com/self. Questions? Contact Cecilia Grefalda at (847) 492.7444 or cgrefalda@matherlifeways.com.
