With its new report, the National Center for Assisted Living has made it easier for assisted living operators to navigate regulations. It outlines the regulatory requirements for assisted living residences in all 50 states and in the District of Columbia.
Federal laws impact assisted living; however, primary oversight of residences occurs on the state level. Laws governing assisted living vary enough state-by-state to make the operating environment for national assisted living providers complex and hard to navigate. Compound this with the fact that many states utilize different terminologies and make regulatory changes in a piecemeal fashion, and the fluidity of the regulatory environment can be quite confusing.
The report includes the following information about every state: agency phone number; contact name and information; regulatory agency Web address; licensure term; definition of licensure term; disclosure items; facility scope of care; third-party scope of care; move-in/move-out requirements; resident assessment; medication management; physical plant requirements; staff education and training; and Medicaid policy and reimbursement.
