Promising Practices

For Past Participants in LEAP & PREPARE

Mather LifeWays Institute on Aging is launching a national campaign to identify and catalog promising practices developed in organizations that have participated in the LEAP and PREPARE train-the-trainer workshops. The goal of this initiative is to learn "what is working" and "how it is working" from organizations that have experienced success. Organizations with the most promising practice(s) will be selected to win one of four Mather LifeWays Institute on Aging Promising Practices Awards. Select promising practice(s) developed and employed by organizations across the country will be documented in a report that will be made available to senior living and long-term care communities.

Application Process

New application deadline April 30.

Every organization that completes the application will:

  • Have their promising practice(s) recognized in the National Promising Practices Report
  • Receive a free National Promising Practices Report
  • Receive a subscription to Mather LifeWays aging in action e-newsletter
  • Receive a Mather LifeWays Orange Paper and PowerPoint presentation, entitled "Toward Cultural Competence in Nursing Care of Older Residents," that discusses cultural competency in organizations

First Place LEAP and PREPARE winners will receive:
$800 Education Certificate redeemable towards any Mather LifeWays Institute on Aging train-the-trainer workshop, webinar, or online course.

Second Place LEAP and PREPARE Winners will receive:
$500 Education Certificate redeemable towards any Mather LifeWays Institute on Aging train-the-trainer workshop, webinar, or online course.

Additional prizes for all winners will include:

  • A feature in the National Promising Practices Report
  • A profile on the Mather LifeWays website
  • A press release about their award sent to their local newspapers
  • A plaque distinguishing the winners as leaders
  • A Mather LifeWays Institute on Aging toolkit of their choice:
    • PREPARE Toolkit
    • PREPARE Interactive Guide
    • S.E.L.F. DVD and Training Guide
    • OQOLD Toolkit
  • An invitation to participate in a panel discussion at a well-respected conference

Complete the application in seven (7) pages or less by answering the questions about your LEAP or PREPARE program.

Award Selection

The applications will be reviewed by a team of professionals, including a nurse, an organizational anthropologist, a sociologist, LEAP instructors, PREPARE instructors, and educators. Semi-finalists will be selected, and these applicants will be interviewed via telephone. Winners will be selected after all of the phone interviews are completed.
