Mather LifeWays Names Caren L. Reed as New Chairman of Board of Directors

Evanston, IL- July 5, 2006, Mather LifeWays, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to creating ways to age well, has announced the election, effective May 4, 2006, of Caren L. (Jeff) Reed as chairman of its board of directors, succeeding Robert McDermott, who served as board chair since 2002.

Reed, who has been a member of the Mather LifeWays board of directors since 2001, will offer his guidance to the organization, which is known for enhancing the lives of older adults through in-depth research, innovative wellness and workforce development programs, senior residences and its community-based Mather's—More Than a Cafés.

"Jeff Reed will play a key role in furthering Mather LifeWays' mission-driven activities,” said Mary Leary, president and CEO of Mather LifeWays. "He brings strong leadership skills, and his character and passion for serving a growing generation of older adults exemplifies the type of individual we value on our board of directors."

Reed was a Founding Director and President of The Private Bank and Trust Company in Chicago, with which he has been involved since 1990. Reed was previously an Executive Vice President with Continental Illinois Bank, where he spent nearly 35 years. In addition to his business accomplishments, Reed has served on a number of boards, including the Board of Heartland Alliance for Human Needs and Human Rights, Chicago Literacy Board, Wilmette School Board and the publicly owned Stanray Corporation.

He is a graduate of Iowa State University and holds additional degrees from the University of Wisconsin's Graduate School of Banking and Northwestern University's International Management School.
