Sally Myers Joins The Mather Life Centre As Administrator

Evanston, IL. (May 3, 2010) – Mather LifeWays has named Sally Myers as Administrator of The Mather Life Centre.  In her new role, Myers will oversee resident care as well as staff development and training.

The Mather Life Centre, which opened in February, consists of 10 assisted living, 12 memory support, and 35 long-term care suites, providing residents of The Mather with a full continuum of on-site care.  The Mather Life Centre introduction followed the October 2009 opening of The Mather, the Chicago area’s newest Continuing Care Retirement Community, located at 425 Davis Street in Evanston.

Myers has more than 26 years of healthcare experience, 18 of which have been dedicated to long-term care and assisted living.  Most recently she served as executive director of Belmont Village in Glenview, IL.

“We are very excited that Sally has joined The Mather team, “said Sara McVey, Vice President and Experience Director, The Mather.  “She is a passionate leader who works to create an atmosphere of caring, wellness, empathy, respect, joy, and living life to its fullest.”

Myers is a licensed nursing home administrator, a registered nurse, a certified gerontological nurse and is rehabilitation certified.

Myers will work closely with McVey and Dr. Victoria Braund who serves as Medical Director of The Mather Life Centre.  Dr. Braund has served as Medical Director for Mather LifeWays since 2000 and recently added medical oversight of The Mather Life Centre to her responsibilities.  Dr. Braund is Division Director, Geriatrics, Evanston Northwestern Healthcare, and Assistant Professor, Northwestern University Medical School.

“Mather LifeWays has been a leading provider of assisted living and skilled nursing services in the Chicago area for nearly 60 years,” said Sara McVey, Vice President and Experience Director, The Mather.  “The Life Centre firmly establishes The Mather as a Continuing Care Retirement Community, carrying on our tradition of delivering a high standard of care to residents.”

Not only have we managed well-respected communities at all levels of care, but the Mather LifeWays Institute on Aging has trained other senior living communities in all 50 states to deliver a high standard of care to their own residents.”

According to McVey, staff turnover at Mather LifeWays nursing care centers is consistently below the national average.   “We recently received the Excellence in the Workplace award from the American Association of Homes and Services for the Aging,” she said.  “This means you can count on familiar faces of people who genuinely care about their work and the residents. A stable workforce is an essential ingredient to our ability to provide meaningful person-centered care.”

McVey also pointed out that The American Medical Directors Association (AMDA) recently selected the Mather LifeWays Institute on Aging (MLIA)  LEAP staff training program as a recipient of the 2010 AMDA Foundation/Evercare Award for improving the quality of life of persons living in long-term care communities.  The award demonstrates the impact of LEAP at Mather Pavilion, also located in Evanston, which has had a successful history of high resident and family satisfaction, low staff turnover, and few health deficiencies.

The Mather is the latest addition to a family of senior living residences created by Mather LifeWays that strive to offer older adults the opportunity to pursue engaged and active lifestyles.  The Mather offers a full continuum of care, from independent living through skilled nursing care.
